With GoPro's announcement today of their new lineup of Hero action cameras all of us in the aerial video world are curious about the details of specs and especially about the compatibility with existing DJI products, namely the Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal. We were able to get our hands on a new Hero4 (both Black and Silver) and we thought we'd add our voice to the growing list of reviewers out there.
First of all a few specs on the new GoPro (Black edition):
4K at 30fps
2.7K at 50fpd
1080p at 120fps
12MP photos up to 30 frames per second
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth®
Protune™ for photos and video
Waterproof to 131’ (40m)
As you can see, the new GoPro Hero 4 fits perfectly on the Zenmuse gimbal. The next question was whether it would still feed video to the wireless video transmitter. Answer, yes. Using the H3-3D's ribbon cable and USB connector, the video feed worked fine.
We would like to note one issue however, at that was when using the Lightbridge with the Hero4. While it was initially able to stream the video feed, as soon as we hit the 'record' button the image froze. This appears to be a DJI firmware/software issue that will surely be remedied soon.
All in all, we are VERY excited by the new camera and what full 30fps 4K video means to us as aerial video aficionados! Of course we will be offering the new Hero4's as soon as they become available Oct. 4th.
