DJI Phantom 3 Battery
DJI Phantom 3 Battery
One of the most important parts of a drone is the battery. The battery is like the powerhouse of the craft, giving it energy and making everything work. For any drone, you want a battery that will handle a lot. A battery that will give you as much flight time as possible.
The different variations of the DJI Phantom 3 have different power for their battery charger. The Professional has a 100W charger which will charge the battery much faster than the Advanced that only has a 57W charger. Though the voltage for both is 17.4.
Here are the specs for the Intelligent Flight Battery:
Battery Type: LiPo 4S
Capacity: 4480 mAh
Energy: 68 Wh
Voltage: 15.2 V
Max Charging Power: 100 W
Net Weight: 365 g
Operating Temperature: -10°C to 40°C
Max Flight Time: 23 minutes
The battery for the Phantom 3 works much the same way as the Intelligent Flight Battery in the Inspire 1. To turn on the battery, press the power button once then again and hold for 2 seconds. To turn it off, do the same thing. While it is on, the built-in LEDs will display the remaining power of the battery and the remaining life of the battery overall. If you need to view battery power while it is off, just press the power button once, and, to see overall battery life, press and hold the button for 5 seconds.
If your Phantom 3 is low on power, the drone will calculate the remaining power is takes to return and will return to the last home point when it needs to. That way you won’t have to worry about accidentally flying your drone until it’s out of power and crashes. This takes a lot of stress off of you when figuring out when you need to stop and recharge.
The Phantom 3 battery also comes with several protections that will prevent damage from over charging, over discharging, short circuits, and other things. The battery also has a sleep mode that will kick in after it has been inactive for over 10 minutes. This saves you a lot of power and means that you won’t have to run for the charger as often if you forget to turn off the battery right away.
All battery information is available to view on the main controller as well as through the app. Current, capacity, voltage—pretty much any battery information you need to know you can view easily.
Remember that your battery must be fully charged before it can be used for the first time. Be careful not to use a different charger than what is specified, or else you might cause serious damage to at least the battery and the charger.
The Intelligent Flight Battery that comes with the Phantom 3 is more advanced than previous batteries DJI has used. The battery in the Inspire 1 only gets 18 minutes of flight time rather than 23. When it comes to drone flight time, 5 minutes makes a huge difference.
